Quebec judge removes unvaccinated father’s right to visit child

Despite prediction Omicron could infect half of Europe, residents bristle at new vaccine mandates

In Europe, where the spread of the Omicron variant of the coronavirus led to 7.4 million new reported cases of COVID-19 this past week, Dr. Hans Kluge, regional director of the World Health Organization Europe, made a startling announcement on Tuesday. Given the “new West-to-East tidal wave” across the continent, his agency believes that more than half of Europeans could “be infected in the next six to eight weeks.”
Even before Kluge’s dire warning, however, harsh COVID restrictions were going into effect in Europe. On Monday, for example, Italians awoke to a new reality: Unless they are fully vaccinated against COVID or recently recovered, they can no longer go to restaurants or bars, nor can they even use public transport — even if they show proof of a negative PCR test. Italy’s government also this week made vaccination compulsory for those over 50.

Vaccines are required in Greece for citizens over the age of 60, and starting next month in Austria inoculations will be mandated for those 14 and up. Noncompliant Austrians face fines of more than $4,000.
For many Europeans, these moves seem downright draconian.
“Now I can’t even go to the bank or the barber,” said Renzo, a 40-something antiques dealer in Florence who has resisted getting inoculated with an mRNA vaccine over fears they were rushed out too quickly. “I can only go out to the supermarket or the pharmacy. It feels like I’m under house arrest.”
But with more countries enacting harsh restrictions to try to slow the spread of the virus, Europe is quickly becoming off-limits for the unjabbed, and sparking a backlash in the process.
“In general,” Finnish sociologist Niko Pyröhen, a senior researcher at the University of Helsinki, told Yahoo News that Europeans “don’t want to see all these regulations and restrictions. They just want to get their vaccines, and then they want it to be done.”
Renzo added that he knows people, including his cousin, who are purposely “trying to get COVID,” solely because being recently recovered allows them to get Italy’s latest health pass without getting vaccinated. “It’s crazy,” he said.

U.S. Steel selects site for new advanced steelmaking facility

Pittsburgh-based United States Steel Corp. announced on Tuesday it has selected a location to build a new, $3 billion technologically advanced steel mill.
The new mill will be located in Osceola, Arkansas, which, combined with the company’s nearby Big River Steel plant, will form a 6.3 million ton mega mill.
The new facility will feature two electric arc furnaces with 3 million tons per year of steelmaking capacity. The facility will also have an endless casting and rolling line — the first use of the technology in the United States — and advanced finishing capabilities. The project is expected to break ground in the first quarter of 2022 and finish in 2024. Once completed, the facility will apply for LEED certification.
The location will utilize renewable power from Entergy Arkansas and Class 1 rail service from BNSF Railway.
U.S. Steel President and CEO David Burritt said the construction of the new facility and mega mill in Arkansas will be one that offers the company “incomparable advantages,” including a more resilient supply chain.
“The State of Arkansas, Mississippi County, the City of Osceola, Entergy, BNSF and other parties have all worked to make this the clear choice for a path to the future without roadblocks,” Burritt said. “We’re not going to make our stakeholders wait to see progress. We intend to break ground this quarter and get to work as soon as permits are in hand.”
Leaders in Arkansas also expressed their support of the new project, with Gov. Asa Hutchinson citing the high-paying jobs the facility will bring to the region. The state’s Secretary of Commerce, Mike Preston, also praised the decision.
“Not only does Arkansas have a trained workforce, a reliable electrical grid and easy access to river, rail and highways, but it also has a governor, a General Assembly, and numerous community partners and stakeholders who recognize the importance of broadening economic opportunities for Arkansans and who will go the extra mile to compete for those opportunities,” Preston said. “U.S. Steel is a highly regarded member of the state’s business community, and we are excited to continue our partnership with them as they establish the most advanced steelmaking facility in North America — right here in Arkansas.”

An alert reader pointed me to a key statement in a document published by OraSure Technologies, a manufacturer of a rapid COVID test. The document is posted on an FDA web page.
It is titled, “IntellSwab COVID-19 Rapid Test—Healthcare Provider Instructions for Use.”
The key quote occurs in a section headlined, Limitations of the Test:
“Potential cross reactivity of the InteliSwab™ COVID-19 Rapid Test with COVID-19 vaccines or therapeutics has not been evaluated.”
In the medical community, the term “cross reactivity” is universally understood. It means: a test designed to detect whether X is present in a person’s body is, in fact, detecting Y, an entirely irrelevant item, BUT is mistakenly calling it X.

And in this document I just quoted, the manufacturer readily admits it hasn’t looked into the possibility that the COVID test is reacting to the COVID VACCINE and then mistakenly stating the vaccinated person has THE VIRUS in his body. So the question is: why hasn’t the manufacturer looked into this cross reactivity issue? The document shows tests for all sorts of other possible cross reactivity.
And the next question is: how can the FDA grant emergency use authorization for this rapid test, when cross reactivity with the vaccine hasn’t been explored?

Immigration is bynow a minor problem in Italy, as people are mainly focus to defend theirselves from a government which wants to inoculate them with an experimental jab every 4 months, but it is anyway interesting to know that for the second year in a row Italy decides to import truck drivers from other Countries because Italian Truck drivers have difficulties to work with such low salaries, worlong king hours and also new ones have difficulty to pay themselves to obtain the licence, which in Italy costs more than 5.000 Euro (while in third world Countries of course not).

If the world population is 7,794,798,739, then the number of additional deaths to increase the percentage dying in a given year by 0.01% would be 779,480.
There are various estimates of the number of deaths from COVID. Just using the number of reported death counts gives something over 5 million for 2020 and 2021 combined. Using some estimates based on an analysis of The Economist ( https://ourworldindata.org/excess-mortality-covid ), total excess deaths of all kinds could to as many as 20 million, again over the two years combined. For a single year (that is, considering 2020 or 2021), excess deaths are thus between 2.5 million and 10 million.
If deaths increased by between 2.5 and 10.0 million each year, they increased by a great deal more than 0.01%, comparing these amounts to the required number of 779,480 to move the percentage by .01%. In fact, it looks like they would increase the expected number dying each from 0.76% to something between 0.79% and 0.89%. Evidently, the numbers the RMPC officer is working with are someone’s guesstimate of deaths for 2020 and 2021. The person making the model probably picked the percentage 0.76% based on past deaths, and figured that would be a sufficiently good estimate for deaths for 2020 and 2021. Very good, Gail. A bit of fact checking is worth it but many here don’t want to spend the time. The World Mortality Dataset showed 4 million excess deaths for 2020 and half of 2021. Excess deaths means that the mortality rate must have increased from the norm. The article that Fast Eddy linked to doesn’t show any data sources so Steve Kirsch is just taking that RCMP officer’s word for it. It’s not safe to fly with a vaccinated pilot. Apart from the risk of catching something from a filthy vaccinated person because of their immune problems, they could have a heart attack. Flying a helicopter without experience is impossible unlike a fixed wing where at least you have some chance of being talked down.

The article talks about “productive activity that stays within planetary boundaries.” I would expect that as a practical matter, everything that it made or consumed will have to result from activity strictly within New Zealand’s borders. That would mean doing without oil, imported food, and replacement parts for practically anything that breaks. Transportation would likely come to a halt. Electric power lines needing repairs could not be fixed. Even if coal could be mined, it likely couldn’t be transported anywhere. New Zealand would come to a complete halt.
About forty years ago I read a report on how life might go on in New Zealand if the country was to become a real hermit kingdom, such as following a general breakdown of industrial civilization. Sorry, I don’t remember the author and don’t have a link to it. But I remember the conclusion was that they could probably manage to sustain a “medieval” standard of living with a max. population of three or four million.
