Our fossil fuel energy predicament, including why the correct story is rarely told

There is more to the fossil fuel energy predicament than we usually hear about.

Strangely enough, a big part of the confusion regarding the nature of our energy problem comes from the fact that virtually everyone wants to hear good news, even when the news isn’t very good. We end up seeing information in the Mainstream Media mostly from the perspective of what people want to hear, rather than from the perspective of what the story really is. In this post, I explain why this situation tends to occur. I also explain why our current energy situation is starting to look more and more like an energy shortage situation that could lead to economic collapse.

This post is a write-up of a presentation I gave recently. A PDF of my talk can be found at this link. An mp4 video of my talk can be found at this link: Gail Tverberg’s Nov. 9 presentation–Our Fossil Fuel Energy Predicament.

Slide 1
Slide 2

Most people attending my talk reported that they had mostly heard about the issue on the right end of Slide 2: the problem of using too much fossil fuel and related climate change.

I think the real issue is the one shown on the left side of Slide 2. This is a physics issue. Without fossil fuels, we would find it necessary to go back to using older renewables, such as oxen or horses for plowing, burned wood and other biomass for heat, and wind-powered sail boats for international transport.

Needless to say, these older renewables are only available in tiny quantities today, if they are available at all. They wouldn’t provide many jobs other than those depending on manual labor, such as subsistence agriculture. Nuclear and modern renewables would not be available because they depend on fossil fuels for their production, maintenance and long distance transmission lines.

Slide 3
Slide 4

On Slide 4, note that M. King Hubbert was a physicist. This seems to be the academic specialty that finds holes in other people’s wishful thinking.

Another thing to note is Hubbert’s willingness to speculate about the future of nuclear energy. He seemed to believe that nuclear energy could take over, when other energy fails. Needless to say, this hasn’t happened. Today, nuclear energy comprises only 4% of the world’s total energy supply.

Slide 5

The transcript of the entire talk by Rear Admiral Hyman Rickover is worth reading. I have excerpted a few sentences from his talk. His talk took place only a year after Hubbert published his research.

Rickover clearly understood the important role that fossil fuels played in the economy. At that early date, it looked as if fossil fuels would become too expensive to extract between 2000 and 2050. A doubling of unit costs for energy may not sound like much, but it is, if a person thinks about how much poor people in poor countries spend on food and other energy products. If the price of these goods rises from 25% of their income to 50% of their income, there is not enough left over for other goods and services.

Slide 6

Regarding Slide 6, the book The Limits to Growth by Donella Meadows and others provided early computer modeling of how population growth and extraction of resources might play out. The base model seemed to indicate that economic decline would start about now. Various other scenarios were considered, including a doubling of the resources. Without very unrealistic assumptions, the economy always headed downward before 2100.

Slide 7

Another way of approaching the problem is to analyze historical civilizations that have collapsed. Peter Turchin and Sergey Nefedov analyzed eight economies that collapsed in their book Secular Cycles. There have been many examples of economies encountering a new source of energy (conquering a new land, or developing a new way of producing more energy), growing for a time, reaching a time where growth is more limited, and finally discovering that the economy that had been built up could no longer be supported by the resources available. Both population and production of goods and services tended to crash.

We can think of the current economy, based on the use of fossil fuels, as likely following a similar path. Coal began to be used in quantity about 200 years ago, in 1820. The economy grew, as oil and natural gas production was added. We seem to have hit a period of “Stagflation,” about 1970, which is 50 years ago. The timing might be right to enter the “Crisis” period, about now.

We don’t know how long such a Crisis Period might last this time. Early economies were very different from today’s economy. They didn’t depend on electricity, international trade or international finance in the same way that today’s world economy does. It is possible (in fact, fairly likely) that the downslope might occur more rapidly this time.

Past Crisis Periods seem to feature a high level of conflict because rising population leads to a situation where there are no longer enough goods and services to go around. According to Turchin and Nefedov, some features of the Crisis Periods included increased wage disparity, collapsing or overturned governments, debt defaults, inadequate tax revenue and epidemics. Economists tell us that there is a physics reason for the rich to get richer and the poor to get poorer during Crisis Periods; in some sense, the poor get “frozen out” and the wealth rises to the top, like steam.

Slide 8
Slide 9

Slide 9 is a chart I prepared several years ago, showing the growth in the world production of fuels of various types. What little wind and solar was available at that time was included in the biofuels section at the bottom. Early biofuels consisted largely of wood and charcoal used for heat.

Slide 10

Slide 10 shows average annual increases for 10-year periods corresponding to the periods shown on Slide 9. This chart goes to 2020, so it covers a full 200-year period. Note that the increases in energy consumption shown are especially high in the 1951-1960 and 1961-1970 periods. These periods occurred after World War II when the economy was growing especially rapidly.

Slide 11

Slide 11 is similar to Slide 10, except I divide the bars into two pieces. The bottom, blue part corresponds to the amount that population grew, on average, during this ten-year period. Whatever is left over I have referred to as the amount available to increase the standard of living, shown in red. A person can see that when the overall growth in energy consumption is high, population tends to rise rapidly. With more energy, it is possible to feed and clothe larger families.

Slide 12

Slide 12 is like Slide 11, except that it is an area chart. I have also added some notes regarding what went wrong when energy consumption growth was low or negative. An early dip occurred at the time of the US Civil War. There was a very long, low period later that corresponded to the period of World War I, World War II and the Depression. The collapse of the central government of the Soviet Union occurred in 1991, so it is part of the 10-year period ended 2000. Most recently, we have encountered COVID shutdowns.

The peaks, on the other hand, tended to be good times. The period leading up to 1910 corresponded to the time of early electrification. The period after World War II was a period of growth and rebuilding. Most recently, China and its large coal resources helped pull the world economy forward. China’s coal supply stopped growing about 2013. I have written that we can no longer depend on China’s economy to pull the world economy forward. With recent rolling blackouts in China (mentioned in the next section), this is becoming more evident.

Without enough energy, the current period is beginning to look more and more like the period that included World War I and II and the Great Depression. Strange outcomes can occur when there basically are not enough resources to go around.

Slide 13
Slide 14

Slide 14 shows recent energy production. A person can see from this slide that wind and solar aren’t really ramping up very much. A major problem is caused by the fact that wind and solar are given the subsidy of “going first” and prices paid to other electricity producers are adjusted downward, to reflect the fact that their electricity is no longer needed by the grid. This approach tends to drive nuclear out of business because wholesale electricity rates tend to fall to very low levels, or become negative, when unneeded wind and solar are added. Nuclear power plants cannot easily shut down. Instead, the low prices tend to drive the nuclear power plants out of business. This is sad, because electricity from nuclear is far more stable, and thus more helpful to the grid, than electricity from wind or solar.

Slide 15

Fossil fuel producers need quite high energy prices for a variety of reasons. One of these reasons is simply because the easiest-to-extract resources were removed first. In recent years, producers have needed to move on to resources with a higher cost of extraction, thus raising their required selling prices. Wages of ordinary citizens haven’t kept up, making it hard for selling prices to rise sufficiently to cover the new higher costs.

Another issue is that fossil fuel energy prices need to cover far more than the cost of drilling the current well. Producers need to start to develop new areas to drill, years in advance of actually getting production from those sites. They need extra funds to work on these new sites.

Also, oil companies, especially, have historically paid high taxes. Besides regular income taxes, oil companies pay state taxes and royalty taxes. These taxes are a way of passing the “surplus energy” that is produced back to the rest of the economy, in the form of taxes. This is exactly the opposite of wind and solar that need subsidies of many kinds, especially the subsidy of “going first,” that drives other electricity providers out of business.

Prices for oil, coal and natural gas have been far lower than producers need, for a long time. The COVID shutdowns in 2020 made the problem worse. Now, with producers quitting at the same time the economy is trying to reopen, it is not surprising that some prices are spiking.

Slide 16

Most local US papers don’t tell much about world energy prices, but these are increasingly becoming a big problem. Natural gas is expensive to ship and store, so prices vary greatly around the world. US natural gas prices have roughly doubled from a year ago, but this is a far lower increase than many other parts of the world are experiencing. In fact, the bills that most US natural gas residential customers will receive will increase by far less than 100% because at the historic low price, over half of the price for residential service is distribution expenses, and such expenses don’t change very much.

Slide 17

Slide 17 shows another way of looking at data that is similar to that in Slide 14. This slide shows amounts on a per capita basis, with groupings I have chosen. I think of coal and oil as being pretty much the only energy resources that can “stand on their own.” The recent peak year for combined coal and oil, on a per capita basis, was 2008.

Natural gas, nuclear, and hydroelectric were the first add-ons. If a person looks closely, it can be seen that the growth rate of this group has slowed, at least in part because of the pricing problems caused by wind and solar.

The “green” sources at the bottom are growing, but from a very low base. The main reason for their growth is the subsidies they receive. If fossil fuels falter in any major way, it will adversely affect the growth of wind and solar. Already, there are articles about supply chain problems for the big wind turbines. Any cutback in subsidies is also harmful to their production.

Slide 18

US papers don’t tell us much about these problems, but they are getting to be very serious problems in other parts of the world. The countries with the biggest problems are the ones trying to import natural gas or coal. If an exporting country finds its own production falling short, it is likely to make certain that its own citizens are adequately supplied first, before providing exports to others. Thus, importing countries may find very high prices, or supplies simply not available.

Slide 19
Slide 20

This slide got a lot of laughs. The university does have some sort of agricultural plot, but teaching subsistence farming is not its goal.

Slide 21
Slide 22
Slide 23
Slide 24

My point about “scientists who are not pressured by the need for research grants or acceptance of written papers are the ones trying to tell the whole truth” got quite a few laughs. As a practical matter, this means that retired scientists tend to be disproportionately involved in trying to discern the truth.

With the military understanding the need to work around energy limits, one change has been to move away from preparation for “hot wars” to more interest in biological weapons, such as viruses. Thus, governments of many countries, including the United States, Canada, France, Italy, Australia and China, have funded research on making viruses more virulent. The vaccine-making industry also supported this effort because it might enhance the industry’s ability to make and sell more vaccines. It was believed that there might even be new techniques that would develop from this new technology that would increase the overall revenue generated by the healthcare industry.

Questions came up, both during the talk and later, about what other changes have taken place because of the need for much of the audience to hear a story with a happily ever after ending, and because of the known likely decline of the economy for physics reasons. Clearly one thing that happens is successful entrepreneurs, such as Elon Musk, aim their production in areas where subsidies will be available. With fossil fuel production not making money, fossil fuel producers are even willing to undertake renewable projects if subsidies seem to be high enough. The issue isn’t really, “What is sustainable?” It is much more, “Where will the profits be, given where subsidies will be, and what people are being taught about how to perceive today’s problems?”

Slide 25
Slide 26
Slide 27
Slide 28

In fact, what has been happening in recent years is that a great deal of debt has been added to the world economy. Mostly, this added debt seems to be creating added inflation. It definitely is not leading to the rapid extraction of a great deal more fossil fuels, which is what really would allow the production of more goods and services. If inflation leads to higher interest rates, this, by itself, could destabilize the financial system.

Slide 29

I tried to explain, as I have in the past, how a self-organizing economy works. New citizens are born, and old ones pass away. New businesses are formed, and they add new products, keeping in mind what products citizens want and can afford. Governments add laws and taxes, as situations change. Energy is needed at every step in production, so availability of inexpensive energy is important in the operation of the economy, as well. There are equivalences, such as employees tend also to be customers. If the wages of employees are high, they can afford to buy many goods and services; if wages are low, employees will be very restricted in what they can afford.

In some sense, the economy is hollow inside, because the economy will stop manufacturing unneeded products. If an economy starts making cars, for example, it will phase out products associated with transportation using horse and buggy.

Slide 30

A self-organizing economy clearly does not operate in the simple way economists seem to model the economy. Low prices can be just as big a problem as high prices, for example.

Another issue is that the energy needs of an economy seem to depend on its population and how far it has already been built up. For example, roads, bridges, water distribution pipelines and electricity transmission infrastructure must all be maintained, even if the population falls. We know humans need something like 2000 calories a day of food. Economies seem to have a similar constant need for energy, based on both the number of people in the economy and the amount of infrastructure that has been built up. There is no way to cut back very much, without the economy collapsing.

Slide 31

I am not exactly certain when the first discussion of the economy as a dissipative structure (self-organizing system powered by energy) started. When I prepared this slide, I was thinking that perhaps it was in 1996, when Yoshinori Shizoawa wrote a paper called Economy as a Dissipative Structure. However, when I did a search today, I encountered an earlier paper by Robert Ayres, written in 1988, also discussing the economy as a dissipative structure. So, the idea has been around for a very long time. But getting ideas from one part of academia to other parts of academia seems to be a very slow process.

Debt cannot grow indefinitely, either, because there needs to be a way for it to be paid back in a way that produces real goods and services. Without adequate energy supplies, it becomes impossible to produce the goods and services that consumers need.

About Gail Tverberg

My name is Gail Tverberg. I am an actuary interested in finite world issues - oil depletion, natural gas depletion, water shortages, and climate change. Oil limits look very different from what most expect, with high prices leading to recession, and low prices leading to financial problems for oil producers and for oil exporting countries. We are really dealing with a physics problem that affects many parts of the economy at once, including wages and the financial system. I try to look at the overall problem.

    I’ve lost interest … https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u0ad28_arr0

    1. Because it assumes that the Elders are actually trying to protect people from the virus

    2. They are discussing what options there are to vaccinate against a coronavirus — that is no more problematic than a bad flu — when they will know of this (in fact this fail was mentioned) https://www.wired.com/2003/05/feds-race-to-make-sars-vaccine/

  2. Fast Eddy says:

Israel decided to ban entry to non-residents and impose stricter quarantine rules for Israelis returning from abroad, in an effort to prevent an outbreak of the omicron variant of the coronavirus in the country.

  3. Fast Eddy says:

45% of deaths after COVID vaccination happen in the first 2 weeks

It’s 59% at 4 weeks and 63% at 5 weeks. Doing some very conservative estimates on the number of Americans killed by the vaccine leads to the inevitable conclusion that the vaccines should be stopped.

  4. Yoshua says:

Injecting GMO vaccines into people during a pandemic…what on earth could go wrong?

Maybe the virus mutated to evade the unnatural antibodies produced against the unnatural spike proteins produced by the GMO vaccines?

I have no idea what went wrong.

  5. Yoshua says:

The mad science project went bad when they injected the GMO vaccines into humans? The moronic virus has integrated human genome into its sequence…and might have integrated genome from the GMO vaccines into its sequence as well?

  6. Fast Eddy says:

The one teen has been informed that if if he leaves due to the jab mandate he leaves the establishment short-handed… so now if he does not reconsider they will not put him on unpaid leave (as initially promised – so he could still get his residency).. and that his visa application will be killed….

And here’s the punchline… if he is willing to get jabbed they will give him $250….jab 1 then another $750 (this is in an email that I have seen – it also says ‘this is a lot of money’)

I am beside myself with rage…. $1000 to put your life on the line for a barely above minimum wage job ….

Who in the f789 do they think they are? To think that they can buy someone for $1000

M Fast was in the restaurant yesterday with a mate who is also not jabbing and the owners were sitting with them .. and they were trying to understand why neither M Fast and the mate would take the jab… I was made aware of that over dinner earlier so my spider sense was tingling … then the lad dropped the bombshell when I got home…

We were meant to attend a Christmas gathering at the restaurant with the owners and a few other people later this week… some bullshit gala thing that will run easily $200 a head…

Regretfully Fast Eddy will not be able to attend… Fast Eddy is in a very precarious position right now … dealing with MOREONS …. Pour a few drinks into him… and it could end badly.

This is a head on crash with an Injected CovIDIOT who cannot understand why others refuse … even when offered ‘big money’….

There is no possible way this can be smoothed over with an apology or an attempt to explain…

As one of my other mates responded when I informed him:

    What total f789ing c789s
    Yes really low behaviour
    Essentially bullying bribery and coercion
    F789ing scumbags

  7. Van Kent says:

    The link with the experts talking about the covid vaccines is very good. Some clarity;

Vaccines are given to help the body to fight a disease. Its not the vaccine that fights the disease, but vaccines induse a reaction in the body to make the bodys own immune defence better. All and every medicine is always about letting the body heal itself. Or removing restrictors of self healing.

Covid is actually a inflammation disease. Everything else is quite normal, but the severity of the inflammation is what causes the problems.
Inflammation is an immune response from the body. So actually severe cases of covid are cases where the body attacks itself with too much force.

Originally we didnt need any vaccines. Our immune defences would have taken care of covid just fine.

What the vaccines actually do, is to keep inflammation levels down. The host is carrying covid and is transmitting covid. But for some unknown reason the vaccines keep inflammation levels down.

Vaccines are deadly in the short term.. clots
And vaccines will be causing unknown amounts of damage in the future.
Before the vaccines, everybody had normal immune systems. Now with the vaccines, there is unknown damage to the immune system. Experts know there is damage. But they dont know the amounts of damage. Damage to the very thing that keeps us healthy.. is quite dangerous..

So in short.. vaccines do zero, zilch, nada for herd immunity. So therefore there will arise more virulent strains.

Everybody without vaccines can take the New strains just fine. Nothing but a cold. Nothing special.

Now the real problem are the vaccinated. They have screwed up immune systems and all the strains that follow could be dangerous to their damaged immune systems.

    So.. there are two problems:
    1. A mass psychosis to vaccinate everybody = governments are demanding to damage the very system that is keeping people healthy.. if that isnt against every law, the I dont know what is.. in most other historical times this would have been enough to overthrow the governments..
    2. The vaccinated now have damaged immune systems.. that is a big unknown. Can a damaged immune system handle all the New strains = unknown.. will the damaged immune system cause other auto immune disorders = unknown.. can the damage from the jabs be healed.. unknown

What is known.. is that coming generations will think of these covid vaccines as the most colossal blunder and mass psychosis and governmentsl failure in the history of history.

If you havent taken the jab. You can take the omicron just fine. The jab is the poison.
And dont take my word for it. Click the link and listen to the experts..

    • Fast Eddy says:

But will NZD1000 change anybody’s mind? Think of it as a jab signing bonus!!! Big money … big big money.

      (Fast Eddy’s rage has dissipated … now it’s just simmering disgust… )

    • Van Kent, amazingly structured post, thanks.
Good companion to that ~50-70% death allocation just ~2-5weeks after as linked above..

  8. Azure Kingfisher says:

A bit of hope from @SecretSunBlog:

“You’re not seeing the rise of a new Technocratic order. You’re witnessing the death throes of the old order, who are clinging to authoritarian cybernetic dreams to stave off oblivion. It won’t help. As the ancient Confucians might have said, they’ve lost the Mandate of Heaven.”

I like that one. For the secular-inclined among us, the above could be interpreted as the old order no longer being the best adaptation for a world in transformation.

“The Mandate of Heaven (Chinese: 天命; pinyin: Tiānmìng; Wade–Giles: T’ien-ming; lit. ‘Heaven’s will’) is a Chinese political philosophy that was used in ancient and imperial China to justify the rule of the King or Emperor of China. According to this doctrine, heaven (天, Tian) – which embodies the natural order and will of the universe – bestows the mandate on a just ruler of China, the ‘Son of Heaven’. If a ruler was overthrown, this was interpreted as an indication that the ruler was unworthy, and had lost the mandate. It was also a common belief that natural disasters such as famine and flood were divine retributions bearing signs of Heaven’s displeasure with the ruler, so there would often be revolts following major disasters as the people saw these calamities as signs that the Mandate of Heaven had been withdrawn.” – Wikipedia

    • drb says:

Many people grasp instinctively that there is a fundamental spiritual component in all this. Friends who never worried about spirituality all their life. They have to be no-vaxxers to feel that way, Vaxxed people are actually OK with being away from church, even if they were regulars before. As you envision surviving all this and continuing your life in a totally different world, you have to have faith to go through the worst patches, and sufficient imagination to re-organize your life after.

      • artleads says:

I don’t understand your third line, and I believe it’s much less about individual than about collective salvation.

        • drb says:

I agree about the collective part. One of my best friends in Italy is undergoing a spiritual rebirth with others, including a ex-girlfriend, while they build their post-apocalypse community in an out of the way place. And I am doing similar things and undergoing a similar transformation.

          • Xabier says:

What we are going through has shown us the real ugliness of lies, the emptiness of those who use them however powerful they are, and the nobility of those who have integrity and try to serve others.

It’s a true illumination of the soul, for those who are perceptive.

      • Azure Kingfisher says:

That’s an excellent way to put it, drb. I agree that faith and sufficient imagination are essential in carrying on through this while remaining one of the “unvaccinated” (although I’m personally more partial to the term “refusnik”).

I was one of those who “never worried about spirituality” all my life; never one to join any organized religious group, having always viewed their hierarchical structures with skepticism.
I’ve learned a lot from this site, as well as others, and am content in knowing that there is more to this Earth, this universe, than my own individual material existence. I will never possess a complete knowledge of any of it and I accept that human limitation (no transhumanism fantasies here). I’m not afraid to die, knowing that I’m here, incarnated in material space, for but a lifetime. I’m grateful for the opportunity of life – one which I believe is meant for the expansion of consciousness and/or soul via direct experience.
I refuse to cow to the scamdemic narrative and allow it to become the metanarrative of my life. This, I think, is another major difference between the “vaccinated” and the “unvaccinated.” The majority of the “vaccinated” people I know do not belong to any religion. They would probably deny this, but I would argue that their religion, in the absence of their actively choosing where to invest their faith, is the religion of the state. State worship. They are spiritual orphans and they don’t even know it. They are lost and, in an effort to drive them into its open arms, the state is terrorizing them with its latest frightening narrative.

Everyone knows that there is a narrative on offer. The governments of the world, through their rather uniform actions and public statements, have made it clear that this is to be a global narrative. I would argue that it also has the potential to become a global religion in that it comes with cleansing rituals, garb, talismans, hierarchy, demons, baptism, salvation, and so on. It is state-sponsored religion for the irreligious and state-sponsored rituals for the secularized.

        • drb says:

Thanks again for pointing out that these leaders have absolutely lost their mandate. Now that we are finding our spirituality, it is so easy to form deep alliances with people we would have never imagined we could be allies with.

        • Halfvard says:

“They would probably deny this, but I would argue that their religion, in the absence of their actively choosing where to invest their faith, is the religion of the state. State worship.”

I think Greer’s take that the state religion (all states have one, the secular state is a fiction) is the Religion of Progress. This is basically a materialized version of Christianity replacing the historical trinity with a trinity of Technical Progress, Social Progress, and Economic Progress.

      • Thierry says:

Interesting. I used to be a tough atheist and materialist. Only 2 years ago I found my own spirituality. I believed I was going to die when I realized that he old world was dying, not me. And I had to change to see the world after, that is what is happening.

        • Fast Eddy says:

Fast Eddy tells me he has repetitive dreams in which HE rises from the dead… and then HE is sitting on a thrown with a crown…and there are many very smoking hot women calling ‘choose me… choose me’

I tell him I have no idea what this is all about

      • CTG says:

I have this feeling that the jab took away the soul. They are not warm any more after the jab. They wish you dead

        • Xabier says:

I know a few jabbed who are now rather unbalanced, but that might be lock-downs: no change in the nice people I know who were vaxxed though.

          • Student says:

Xabier, I think that vaccines, for those who have been recently vaccinated, have been considered as a way to come back to normality and to do things like (or almost like) before.
So, for the moment, no change for the majority of them.
Maybe they will have some doubt at the fourth or fifth dose…

      • Bei Dawei says:

This whole pandemic has certainly made *me* more appreciative of the Divine Right of Kings.

      • Student says:

I agree with you drb. This is a good time to come back to spirituality, for those who see that consumerism, prevarication, scientism, modernity (for its own sake) that have permeated our societies have demonstrated to get us into the wrong direction.

WHAT AN incredible BIRTHDAY PRESENT THIS I!!!!!

        • Azure Kingfisher says:

Happy Birthday, Artleads. Be sure to spend the next year of your life aligning yourself with the natural order and will of the universe. 😉

          • Artleads says:

Thanks, Azure! Being comfortable in one’s doings perhaps helps make the universe comfortable too.

      • Fast Eddy says:

        That is rather superb….

Imagine being an Elder and a senior minion… and having access to the actual energy reserves data… and understanding that the gun is running out of bullets with the Beast thrashing and busting the gate…. knowing your awesome gig is about to be stone-aged…

Knowing that thousands of years of history — are about to go up in a puff of smoke…

Unless you had the hard data … you’d never believe it… but you do have that data.. and you are 100% aware of what is coming.

The thing is… the Elders have known for a long time … so there are many on the current board who have been living with this nightmare since they got a seat at the table…

It must be a very difficult burden …

We’ve all known we were on borrowed time … but we had no idea when the day would arrive… so we could always convince ourselves that the day of reckoning could be put off.. many of us thought it would arrive years ago — but it didn’t… so surely they could do something to help BAU stagger on…

They will have known some time ago … that we’d hit the wall around this time

Iranians had a somewhat similar belief: a just ruler ensures protection from natural disasters, which are ultimately sent as punishment by the gods, etc.

Interestingly, Iranian myth shows a clear awareness of the consequences and causes of over-shoot.

They also came up with one of the most sophisticated and long-lasting irrigation systems, and perfected wind-towers to cool houses.

“If the energy crisis has arrived, where does Goehring & Rozencwajg see things 12 months from now? By the end of 2022, we believe global oil demand will have exceeded pumping capability for the first time in history.”

this kind of forecast happens when authors have little or no concept of declining net (surplus) energy.

the world economy is being batttered by diminishing returns.

per capita affordability/demand is being batttered.

of course oil supply will continue its general decline in most future years, but affordability/demand will also decline.

      it’s a race.

for the most part, decreasing supply will probably be somewhat balanced by decreasing demand.

    This is FANTASTIC!!!

I lost contact with an old friend who lives in NYC who was trying to convince me that this was the end of the world … despite me pointing out that the field hospital in the park had no patients … the javits centre repurposed as a mega hospital … had no patients… that the massive navy military hospital ship… never saw a single patient then sailed away … not needed….

He did not take kindly to my calling J’ASSinda a re tard…. for locking us down because of the flu…

There was also an issue with my assertion that these policies would only prolong the crisis … and that this would end in catastrophe….

And here we are — no communication for a year+ now… back to square one… I Told You So would fall on deaf ears… no doubt I’d be blamed for this evolving disaster… me and my unvaxxed brethren in Botswana….

Oh well… I’ll laugh last even though no one is listening … hahahahahahaa….

And they just sit there like reta rded hunks of stoooopid meat… unthinking… unable to think… just pure stoooopid thick stumps…. without even the slightest bit of awareness…

Then they begin clattering away on their keyboard pouring more garbage onto OFW…

The timeline of malfeasance is laid out in meticulous detail with references. You only have to read the first 25 pages or so to see the plan to deploy vaxxes at all costs clear as day.

Fauci is clearly greedy and evil in the ordinary sense. Gates we know is an advocate for depopulation. There are many other actors in the frame with them.

    • Fast Eddy says:

I won’t buy it specifically because it implies this is all about Fauci making money … I already know Fauci is a psychopath…. I am ok with that.

You need a psychopath if you want to murder 8B people…. you need a dog torturer… someone who feels nothing … because he will be called upon to murder babies… pregnant women…

Even Hitler pales in comparison to Fauci… Hitler firmly believed his country was stabbed in the back and driven into extreme poverty by traitors… and he was exacting revenge…

I suspect Hitler would have broken down if he were tasked with the CEP… he would be troubled with killing everyone…

Fauci is a very special kinds of person — you just look at him and you see nothing …

At least with Bernanke when he did what he did during the GFC you could feel that he knew this was the beginning of the end and he was fearful… his robotic press conferences exuded Xanax… he looked like a doped up zombie…

Fauci… he don’t need no Xanax… he enjoyed torturing puppies… he would think there is nothing wrong with that… killing babies… well everyone dies eventually so…

This ain’t about making money … but there will be those who believe that and there will be those that promote that theory … who want to make sure that nobody gets wind of the CEP…

so why would they need the slow and spotty and difficult “let’s cook it up via mass-vaccination”, as if they’d leave such an important thing like the CEP to the flux of Nature. It’s a contradiction.

More likely is a very controlled thing; where they incubated a mess of vials of the original virus that they almost undoubtedly cooked-up years earlier, giving the viruses time to mutate and then selectively, per whatever timing blueprint, drop new (but really old) variant batches off here, there, and wherever. They could create any scenario they wanted with way fewer variables. And, in other words, they could have dropped Devil Covid any time they wanted. That they’re playing it like you’re reporting and like GVB attests, leads one to think it’s a head-fake; the CEP and Devil Covid fears. They don’t need Devil Covid to accomplish their ends. They just need a population that can never resist them again. There’s just too much evidence that another whole economy is in the works for anyone to really believe that Elders want to end mankind in order to avoid barbarism. Their ancestors thrived on mercenary barbarism.

        • Halfvard says:

When they see certain data points going south — they hatch the plan — they drop Covid into the population … they continue to monitor BAU as they wait for Marek’s to emerge….

They reduce the energy burn by turning various dials — air travel is a big one.. manufacturing is another … autos is huge….

Of course they might get this wrong .. it’s never been tried before… black swans happen.. mega unrest could tip BAU over…. it’s a very fragile situation …

However TINA – there can not be a reset… the oil wells are drained… the coal is burned… so either BAU blows sky high … or the Virus goes Mareks and we all die first….

I imagine that if this Omicrom is what it might be … the Elders are feeling a little more confident… no doubt they’ve been on Fauci’s back ‘where is that f789ing Mareks you promised’ Can’t you see BAU is starting to unravel!!! We can only hold this together for so long!!!

  18. Fast Eddy – CEP could have been avoided if only we had all followed PPW (defined below) – of course it does require some face ripping – but in a very controlled and purposeful manner

For more on Overshoot & Collapse – Donella Meadows 1977 link below

I recommend all of the lecture, but starting at approx 23 minutes in a very thought provoking example:

She tells the story of a tribe in New Guinea that had achieved energetic & resource harmony with their universe through rotational slash & burn controlled by pigs, partying & war (call it the PPW method for achieving dynamic equilibrium with the universe) and how it was ruined by the “advanced” morals imposed by Australian interlopers.

    • Fast Eddy says:

We are long past the point of no return on extinction … if not for the ponds those fellas in New Guinea would do just fine … alas they will be eating radiation soon

    • Interesting! I didn’t get quite through all of it.

Somehow, it didn’t seem to me that reducing the number of males by 10% or 20% through war would make that much difference. I thought the number of babies was more dependent on the number of females than the number of females, or perhaps the lower number of males affects the number of acres that can be cleared.

Maybe the later part of the video explains this.

Of course, something similar to this has happened everywhere around the world. The kind of group that brings the new teachings varies. It could be the US Peace Corp, or it could be a religious group. No matter what is “improved,” it pushes populations to more rapid growth and eventual collapse.

      • Both of your suppositions sound plausible. Also, since there was no/primitive healthcare probably had higher non-war induced death rate for women than men due to death during childbirth. Or perhaps some of the husbands did not follow standard protocol and instead of conferring with the other men and calling for a festival just disposed of their nagging wives??

She did not go into the details of the death & birth rate function however
the base case dynamic equilibrium established had a spiked wave population oscillations with maximum human & pig populations that were well below the carrying capacity of the land, so there was never an overshoot induced reduction in soil fertility. They lived within limits. And if HT Odum had seen these model runs he would have commented that they exhibited “The Maximum Power Principle” in action…”natural systems oscillate in order to take advantage of non-linear rates” and thus maximize the power obtained from the system in comparison to a linear rate system w/ flat line equilibrium but the same time averaged population

She did talk about a what-if model run where they instituted health care policies keeping festival and war base case settings. They did this by reducing the human death rate function –she show a graph of this result overpopulation of humans, decreased soil fertility, declining pig population (which eventually crashed first) followed by human crash within 100 years of instituting health care. The institution of no-war policy keeping the pigs and festival was also modeled and also showed uncontrolled human population growth and crash in relatively short order.

So poor health care and face-ripping both required for stable society lol

Here is “equilibrium” base case run at approx 36:25
the healthcare case is discussed at approx 38:20 onward for a minute or so

      • Halfvard says:

You are absolutely correct that historically the reproduction rate is more dependent on the number of females than the number of males; look at it as a human version of Liebig’s Law of the Minimum. Men have functionally infinite sperm whereas women have a limited number of eggs, a lower reproductive timeframe, and can only reproduce ever 12 months or so even if you get aggressive about it.

      • I am very sorry to hear about your mother’s health problems. I hope that she somehow will get better.

        • Yorchichan says:

Thanks Gail. Only my stepfather is allowed into the hospital to see her, so I only get second hand information, but according to him it’s bad.

My first fare yesterday was taking somebody to a vaccination centre. Wait and return. It was busy with a 15 min queue to be injected and the precautionary 15 min wait afterwards. As I sat in my car for 30 minutes I felt like I was watching sheep entering a slaughterhouse.

My dad went into hospital with severe chest pains several weeks after having the first jab. They kept him in and ended up performing a quadruple bypass. The medics reckoned that he was so blocked up, in reality he should’ve been dead. I can’t fault the medics. They acted promptly, the procedure was effective and he has mended well.

It’s hard to be definitive though. Dad said that he was having milder chest pains in the months before jab#1 but said nothing.

Maybe the jab didn’t cause the blockages but acted as an accelerant in some way?

Everyone I know has been jabbed – friends/family/work mates etc. It feels weird being so out of synch with the people around me.

            • Yorchichan says:

My Mum is 79 and doesn’t look healthy at the best of times. It could well be that the jab acted as an accelerant and pushed her health over the edge. I can’t remember if she stayed overnight in hospital after the first jab, but she had to go to hospital within a few days of receiving it. She maintained it was coincidence when I suggested the jab caused it.

In any one instance of heart problems following the jab, coincidence might well be true, but according to many health professionals who are speaking out, there are too many instances to all be coincidence.

Being a taxi driver I talk to a lot of people. There are more people who realise covid is a scam than you might suppose. Stay strong.

My first thought when i viewed this post was it was the most honest thing you have ever posted. In fact it is probably the reason most people get this injection. Could you explain why you are unhappy that it is being discussed?

I would like to address your claim that the reason that this forums patrons found that post so relevant was that they are not critical thinkers. I see it as the exact opposite. That post exactly matches the motives of the behavior you exhibit. Why would we discard a post from you that exactly matches your observed behavior? Ignoring your post would be denying critical thinking.jj, it’s a shame you chose to cherry pick the quote again. What I was putting across was that IF there is no real world impact from the vaccines, as Gail’s comment might imply, then getting the vaccine purely to gain access to facilities, with some governments imposing restrictions on the unvaccinated, is a a reasonable thing to do. It’s a benefit for the vaccinated even if it didn’t protect them from the virus. The quick to comment didn’t even stop to think that the comment in question might look out of place and some of them even chose to clip the “If” off the quoted bit, trying to make out that I claimed something I didn’t. I didn’t ask anyone to discard it but to think critically about it. They didn’t do it at the time and didn’t even after I pointed out that it was misplaced and provided a link to the original thread. I don’t mind its being discussed but that’s not what happened, at all.

Yet you know even if you take the Vaccine safety studies as the absolute truth instead of the manufactured lies that they are…. that even then they are shown to have the potential to cause harm..ergo mandating is unethical

So while the majority of OFW readers (who somehow innately understand this and thus laugh at the ingenuousness of your strawmen) deservedly ridiculed you yet you still act unabashed and innocent and downtrodden and continue to portray yourself as someone misunderstood and mistreated…pooor pooor Mike

Ricardo Salinas Pliego on US Economy and Bitcoin
Mexican billionaire Ricardo Salinas Pliego commented on the U.S. economy and bitcoin Wednesday. He is the founder and chairman of Grupo Salinas, a group of companies with interests in telecommunications, media, financial services, and retail stores. According to Forbes’ list of billionaires, his net worth is currently $14.2 billion.

Salinas tweeted a weekly chart of the total value of the Federal Reserve’s assets (less eliminations from consolidation), which was updated on Nov. 18. It shows total assets of more than 8.67 trillion dollars. The billionaire tweeted:

Good old USA is looking more and more like any other irresponsible third world country…wow…look at the scale of fake money creation. Buy bitcoin right now.
In June, he announced plans for his bank to accept bitcoin. “I recommend the use of bitcoin, and me and my bank are working to be the first bank in Mexico to accept bitcoin,” he tweeted.

On the subject of bitcoin vs. gold, he recommended putting money in bitcoin. “Bitcoin is the new gold,” he said in June, adding that it is “much more portable.” He noted that transporting bitcoin “is so much easier” than having gold bars in your pockets.

In August, the third-richest man in Mexico tweeted:

I think bitcoin has a great future and it will change the world…. we will see

My rather crude understanding of Bosches premise is that variants other than the one selected by the vaccine are produced in the body via natural selection. The injections however do not stop infection or transmission. Since infection is not prevented why would the injections create variants? Its not a leaky vaccine, nothing is actually captured in the vessel so there is no pressure to create variants? Is this incorrect?

    • Ed says:

Since the vax is not sterilizing the virus stays in the body reproducing and mutating. If a random mutation is not beat down by the vax then it has a field day and reproduces to high viral load in the host. Some of it sheds out of the host by cough, sneeze, urine feces. As to virulence and contagiousness there is no driving force for more or less. The random mutations some times will make more sometimes will make less sometimes the same. But if we keep throwing the dice we will eventually get worse.

      • Fast Eddy says:

One can see how it would be difficult or impossible to get this same result in a lab… you need huge numbers of people to participate in order to get such an outcome….

        • hillcountry says:

          “one can see….”

What is there about the number of variants identified early-on via genetic sequencing that makes that not so obvious. Where’d they all come from? There were boatloads of them long before vaccines came on the stage.

          • Fast Eddy says:

I think end of the day to get a Marek’s like outcome on a specific timeline … you cannot just wait for a virus… you create that in a lab… and you need to get it into a lot of bodies that are infected or will be infected with the virus…

Remember — the vaccine will not create mutants unless the host is infected… so the more infected CovDIOT hosts you have … the more quickly you achieve Mareks

    • Fast Eddy says:

The vaccines kill the dominant weaker elements … and the more virulent elements survive and replicate…

Let’s pull out the analogy box…

Let’s say OFW is overrun by DelusiSTANIS… think norm dunc mike x billions…. these are feeble… weakling…. Fauci injects OFW with his leaky vaccine … it kills the DelusiSTANIS…

But it has zero impact on the Core… because the Core is superior to the DelusiSTANIS in every way…. smarter faster stronger etc….

Eventually all that remains is the Core… we breed and the traits that make us awesome spread … then Fauci hits us with a booster… that eliminates the weaker members of the Core….

Those that remain breed … then Fauci strikes again … and on and on we go… getting stronger faster and smarter with each booster.

Eventually all that remains is Fast Eddy and his harem of VERY hot women….

And we all know that Fast Eddy despises humans…. if you think Fast Eddy is a handful know … what till you see his great great great great great great x 1,000,000,000 grandson….

Holy moly! He’ll be exploding with vitality and power … and heaven help the humans….

      • jj says:

My understanding is that the current injections are non sterilizing- they do not kill any virus only stop severe outcomes. I still dont understand. Im sure Bosche understands that the injections are non sterilizing. I see the sterilizing is what creates pressure for the variants to arise by creating unoccupied habitat.. No sterilizing no pressure. If the non mutated virus is occupying the habitat (human body) than there is no unused habitat for the occaisonal mutation to replicate in. No occupancy.

I think my understanding must be off. As it is I dont see how both of these can be true.

        1. the injections do not stop infection and transmission
2 the injections increase the possibility of mutations arising

Thank you for the response Ed, FE. Any other responses to help clarify?

I dont want to sieze upon arguments and understandings that are non factual just because they are appealing.

        • Fast Eddy says:

As I understand non-sterilizing means they do not eliminate the virus… they only eliminate some of the virus… what remains is the elements of the virus that are able to evade sterilization.

Highwire has separated out the interview https://thehighwire.com/videos/vaccine-expert-warns-of-covid-vaccination-catastrophe/

          • Ed says:

FE, we have different understanding of non-sterilizing. I think it means the targeted virus is beaten down (some fraction killed) but it persists.Over time mutations can happen as the virus continues to live and reproduce in the host. If the mutation is less beaten down by the vax it is a new strain an escape. It may be worse same or less bad then its ancestor. If we keep playing this game long enough we will roll snake eyes we will get devil covid. So the idea of vaxxing billion petri dishes with a non sterilizing vax is suicide or planned murder.

            • Fast Eddy says:

I suppose all that matters is that vaccinating with a leaky shot into a pandemic is going to result in some sort of nightmarish outcome.. the exact mechanism is not that important.

        • Replenish says:

My limited understanding is that the concern is Original Antigenic Sin and possible Antibody dependent enhancement from the specific targetting of the spike protein which is a likely site for mutations. In this case, broad immunity from natural infection is preferrable when encountering a future mutated strain even decades later. Marek’s disease where selection pressure from leaky vaccines creates a hot strain with high lethality may be of more concern to confined populations eg. commercial chickens with suppressed immunity rather than free-ranging human populations. However, placing vulnerable humans in lockdown during the height of respiratory virus season and/or forced urbanization or other stress from collapse may give us grounds for more lethal outcomes from a hot strain. Experts have suggested that the conditions of modern civilization increase the threat by altering the terms of the time-tested relationship between host and virus.

“When the 2009 pandemic virus emerged in humans with a swine H1 HA gene descended from, and still closely related antigenically to, the 1918 pandemic virus, extensive cross-protection between the 2009 and 1918 pandemic viruses was demonstrated in experimental animals (12–16). Interestingly, 1918 virus-specific [antibody-producing] B-cell clones could also still be recovered from very elderly survivors 90 years after their exposure to that virus but before their exposure to the 2009 pandemic virus.”

“Original Antigenic Sin may to be evolutionarily entangled with the quasispecies memory which appears to allow RNA viruses to return to full virulence much more quickly than they should statistically be able to, in the sense that they each may have evolved epistatically to counterbalance each other as organisms and their communities increased in complexity.”

No matter. A new era has been entered and there is no going back. Any country or millonaire can do gain of function research. A virus needs no delivery system. It can be released in any backwater place and exponential function will deliver it to all corners of the globe. If we eradicate covid someone will cook up somthing new with gain of function.

You give things names to identify them when there is more than one. It would seem that the practice of giving hurricanes names now has been applied to new virus variants. This means there are expectations of a continuation of emerging viruses and the language is being created that is appropriate for that continuation.

    • Europe is increasingly desperate, with respect to energy supplies. This shows up in many different ways. Indirectly, it seems to push leaders in the direction of totalitarianism.

      • i don’t think its so much leaders being pushed towards totalitarianism, more that voters become desperate, and vote them into office, in the naive belief that totalitarianism will somehow give them what they want and expect.

The fascist leader then finds himself in total control, and begins to run the country into the ground for the benefit of himself and his immediate family-cronies.

This certainly applied to Trump, just as it applied to any dictator you care to check back on, in history.
Trump’s voters saw him as their saviour–hence the cringeworthy group of ‘christians’ laying hands on him in the WH.–and those embarrasing ‘dates’ when Trump was going to be ‘reinstated’..

At least with Biden, we dont get those pics any more–or endless, mindless tweets at 3 am.

I can offer an NP certainty here—if Trump gets elected in 24, and there’s an economic crash in 25/26. (highly likely), he will take emergency powers to deal with ‘social unrest’.

He will not relinquish those powers. Someone like Flynn will see to it that a christian theocracy is permanently established in the USA–or what’s left of it.

There are solutions to peak energy. Use less of it, problem solved overnight. Cliff is not steep at all. 2021 is same as 2008. Peak oil forum was all the rage at the time. Oil drum etc. Same stuff seems to happen now. 2030 comes nothing happens and then only more excuses. I don’t want to fall in this trap ever again. Wishful thinking is a problem that clouds the mind. IEA says there will be higher oil production at the end of 2022 compared to 2019. What hardcore doomers forget is that there is tremendous room for downshifting and cutting down (optional)luxury items and activities to maintain the BAU. BAU is safe for now, this much is obvious. maybe until 2030-2040? Opec says peak oil comes in 2040 and they surely have all the data. A real pandemic would help immensely. not like c0v1d which does not even exist except maybe in labs…

        • I am afraid there is not a solution to peak energy, other than a whole lot fewer people. Maybe a few percent of the current population, if that. In fact, there is no guarantee that humans in their current form will continue. Perhaps something will happen which will allow an unusually large number of mutations, and some of those mutated individuals can somehow start over again, in a different direction.

The peak oil people got a whole lot of things wrong. The problem will affect all kinds of energy simultaneously. There is no point in producing electric vehicles.

Our big problem will be producers who quit pumping oil because the price isn’t high enough, or because the government has been overthrown.

Wind and solar are very poor substitutes for other types of electricity; they really only substitute for some of the coal or natural gas used in generation. Wind and solar require a whole lot more transmission lines, among other things. The prices system used to allow wind and solar on the grid is very unfair; it tends to drive other type of transmission out of business.

There isn’t a whole lot of room for downshifting; the economy tends to collapse rather than downshift. Many historical economies have grown and then collapsed. That is where we are headed, as well.

I respect Gail Tverberg and any academic researcher. She seems honest, well meaning, and a great person. But I can’t simply ignore what the counter arguments are. There are equally or better qualified people who argue the total opposite. There is no reason for me to blindly believe other side so I remain neutral and open. One such example is Robert Walker, a scientist/author who is most known for debunking all sorts of things.

One more thing. You keep pushing Vadeb Bossche as some sort of hero or truth teller while ignoring that he worked for Bill and Melinda, he calls the vaccines “excellent”, and is a vaccinist. Their line is that overall farm profits increase with a highly managed resilient ecosystem approach than with industrial style fossil fuel driven green revolution/highly optimized monoculture agriculture.

Someone posted this or a link like this several weeks ago

Lots of nice talk and a very impressive visual transformation and qualitative verbal description but unfortunately not enough hard data to evaluate true energetic potential; would like to know what kind of net production (food & energy calories/acre/yr) are sustainable from such a system.

Of course maximizing net profit for a small number of regenerative farms by selling premium products works today when there is an adequate market for the high priced products, but they still rely on fossil fuel industrial supplied tools, food processing & distribution systems.

Ultimately could be a path to downsizing to a lower energy/capita type of non-migratory hunter/gatherer level civilization for a much reduced population if the ecological information base/methodology could be preserved and sufficient energy devoted to rudimentary tools industry (Reworking recycled metals (Fe, Al) and embracing the Carbon Cycle (maybe some bioplastics etc.) rather than seeing Carbon as the enemy)

Need some hard data and a good systems dynamic modeler (on par with Meadows et al) to figure out the possible maximum population that could be supported. Looks like I should have taken the Systems Dynamic curriculum under Odum/Best instead of the traditional Water Resources/Water & Wastewater Engineering coursework and maybe then I could answer that question. You are living in a very dangerous dream world if you think you will be allowed to tend your garden in peace…. it is almost impossible to defend a farm — they’ll put a bullet through your head from 300 metres away while you are pulling weeds….

You won’t last a week. You are wasting your time

          • There are some historical clues to be reapplied, perhaps. The “smarter” (minority of) marauders would like to eventually settle down as well, there is a learning curve to everything, that’s how few of the permies will likely survive. Now, define a few, thousands, hundreds, dozens, or perhaps just several individuals per region size of the former US state.. ? Rejuvenation from that bottom base up..

Hard to model something that has so many different variables. I would think your best bet would be to research population densities of indigenous peoples and that would, more or less, tell you what the carrying capacity for humans is for each bioregion under completely natural conditions, pre-climate change. You could throw in additional layers for technological improvements, such as, draft animals and iron farming implements, or solar electric tractors and pumped water, improved medicine. You might be able to add a layer for amount of biomass that could be used as fuel to estimate what level of civilization a sustainable EROEI could support. You could incorporate predicted climate change data and adjust indigenous carrying capacity numbers. Find me in the Degrowth groups on FB if you want to discuss.

        • I am afraid we will get a chance to see how poorly these approaches really work in practice. If a transition is to be made to a lower-energy approach, I would think it would need to be made and tested over a period of years.

Part of the problem is that the issue isn’t really “lower-energy.” It is the fact that supply lines are often broken. Certain essential elements are likely to be just plain missing. Workers may be impossible to find, for example.

Permaculturists and others have planned for a different scenario than we are really encountering. What they think is possible may very well not be possible.

        • Well, it’s about depletion!
The carbon emission mandate is most draconian inside the EU, it pushes prices up so crazy, people are forced to consume way less. And it’s full spectrum hammer: travel, food, heating, .. and imported toyz from Asia are curbed by the “supply side” issues aka sabotage and various energy curbing mandates taking place over there as well..

It’s a win – win. And as someone smartly noticed recently it’s piggybacked on the earlier ~genuine enviro concerns and mandates, which did not mobilize or ostracized enough.

Your humble Moscow correspondent shares his thoughts about COVID Russia with The Unz Review

    • Replenish says:

Thanks for the latest confirmation of Covid: The Great Reset aka 4th Industrial Revolution.

      • there is not, and will be no .reset

there was only one industrial revolution—all steps of industrial development, large or small, simple or complex, ride on the back of that.

the computer revolution?—take a typical one, old or new:

list the components inside early computers, or the latest hand held ones

It is not possible to access the materials that make up those components without the technologies of mining and resource extraction.

And it isn’t possible to undertake that extraction without the processes developed by the (only) industrial revolution in the 1700s.
Since that time, human progress has been a series of incremental steps, each climbing on the previous one, and laying the firm base for whoever figures out the next one.
        The ‘Great Reset?’

Reset what exactly? Money? Politics? Employment? Food/Energy resources? Population?

There really isn’t much more to our way of life than that short list I’ve offered there.

        Choose one: Money.
Reset the money supply–a popular fantasy. To what exactly?

We still have to buy ‘stuff’ in order to live. So if we don’t earn enough to buy enough ‘stuff’ to live, we die. Simple as that. Gold coins or cowrie shells, doesn’t matter what money is called. It’s what you do with it that matters.
Calling it something else, and expecting it to be something else reveals a refusal to think.

Resetting politics and expecting politicians to be ‘different’ is ludicrous.

Demanding ‘reset’ and expecting cheap surplus energy to be made available to us again

Demanding/expecting ‘reset’ and expecting your life to improve as a result is pure fantasy.

        • Replenish says:

Thanks for the reality check Norman! I don’t expect the attempts at reset to succeed based on what I learn from the elders at OFW. • Hideaway says:

Thanks Norman for a good post about the subject matter among all the con.spiracy nonsense.

We have, as Gail often mentions, a self organizing energy dissipative system. The complexity of our system is only possible because of it’s size, increasing size and increasing energy usage. Try to deliberately stop any part of that system and you get cascading failures throughout.

Just listening to the Nate Hagens recent chat here …

… it occurred to me how even people that seem to understand the predicament, still have a blind spot in looking for ‘solutions’ that simply don’t exist. Surely his 20 years in understanding the overshoot problem, would lead to the natural conclusion of ‘there is no answer’, but instead he still thinks ‘something’ is possible or will turn up. Same for Prof Tom Murphy with his new PLAN. (from Do the Math web page).

People in general do not want to understand the predicament, so continually look for solutions that are clearly not viable, even if their perceived solution is the Grand Plan by the elite.

Our civilization needs continual growth, in energy, in population of ‘rich enough’ individuals, in money throughout the system, in resources available and in complexity itself to continue.

More complexity is demonstrated by technological fixes to problems, like renewables solving energy shortages, which is really just an addition to energy use. When part of the system, any part, fails to grow, there are problems throughout the system and because of the complexity, failures within the system turn up in unexpected places.

Unless the system as a whole can continue to grow, failures in any one part lead to cascade failures throughout. They all take time to become obvious, which leads to ‘fixes’ that create their own problems elsewhere, like the money printing from the last decade or so leading central bankers into a corner.

We have huge problems in our complex system from oil production being on a plateau, not growing, so when it starts it’s unstoppable decline the problems of failure throughout the system will keep turning up in unexpected ways at an accelerating rate.

I think it is part of human nature to think that ‘something is bound to turn up’–because in general terms, in the past, it always has. I like to think so too—the alternative is just too awful to contemplate.

The prime factor of course is capital and capitalism. Some people are smarter than others, so the capitalist system allows obscene amounts of capital to accumulate in the hands of a ‘few’. Which takes it from everyone else.

Capitalism has been the single factor that brought us to where we are, but in more specific terms, it has been the ‘consumption of capital’ in a system where capital, in order to sustain us, must be infinite.
Everyone sees it clearly isn’t. Yet we go on as if it is.
We found a cache of treasure, and burned our way through it. It was a one time gift. We cannot create more capital than actually exists on the planet.

But human nature refuses to accept that.

My personal thoughts on that are that when we were ‘hunter-gatherers’, there was always another animal that could be killed for its energy store (meat).
Our brains have not had time to evolve into a different way of thinking–hence the certainty that ‘something is bound to turn up’.

Tainter says much the same thing about cascading collapse.

Botswanan Covid Task Force: New Variant Only Found in Vaccinated Individuals

“On November 25, the Botswanan COVID-19 Task Force reported four new cases of the COVID variant B.1.1.529. All four cases were detected in travelers through routine PCR testing. They noted something interesting about all four cases:

“‘The preliminary report revealed that all four had been fully vaccinated for COVID-19.’

“Yes, all four individuals with detectable cases of B.1.1.529 were fully vaccinated. There have been numerous breakthrough cases of COVID-19 and the Delta variant among the vaccinated. Now, it appears that those who have taken the vaccine may be more susceptible to transmission as this new variant is associated with increased antibody resistance.
The report states that they are uncertain if the currently available vaccinations will prevent transmission and suggests “non-pharmaceutical interventions, such as masks, social distancing, and avoiding unnecessary travel. Governments now have a new reason to reimplement harsh restrictions. The upcoming days and weeks should shine a light on what they plan to do to ‘stop the spread’ since the vaccine is not as ‘safe and effective’ as previously claimed.”

The moronic spike isn’t natural, it has dehumanised, instead of adapting to humans. The Pfizer and Moderna GMO vaccines seems to caused the mutations.

  39. Hubbs says:

As I said weeks ago, think of this “nu” variant as continuation of a medical PONZI, whereby the PTB need to recruit new injectees to perpetuate the “pandemic.” This also requires suppression of adverse effects from the “vaccines” on the VAERS system, just like delays in promised payouts in the financial PONZI scheme have to be extensions of the original con so people don’t catch on that there is no profit in the scam. So they have to lie about VAERS just as the PONZI lies about the promised returns on the investment. Eventually, the money runs out, just in the same way natural immunity would catch up to the COVID if they didn’t perpetuate it with the fear mongering of new variants, and spreading the “disease” via perpetual injections of the spike proteins- the real disease causer. Any “disease” caused by the novel virus/spike protein via human to human infection because of insufficient mask wearing practices or inadequate “vaccinations” has to be conflated with the toxicity of the spike protein being injected.
Now that the variants are all over the world, it is a simple matter to introduce the latest variant du jour, even in a remote place like Botswana where no one can really verify the true “origin,” and immediately after that variant is “confirmed” by genetic sequencing, introduce it throughout the world. No one will be the wiser about its spread. Of course, it does not matter if the new “nu” virus is less lethal or even more “transmissible” than the others. All that matters is that its gene sequence markers can be identified and confirmed as “different.” And the labs have had plenty of time and opportunity to have a whole catalog of variants to select. These mutations of course have emerged in a way quite inconsistent with natural evolutionary incremental genetic drift.

It is quite convenient that 32 of the 50 mutations are on the spike protein itself, the only part that matters, and which has been extensively studied as evidenced by applications for gene sequence patents (unsuccessfully) for the past 20 years. I think Dr David Martin ( not in field of biology) suggested this months earlier. Where did this go? Was it false or just suppressed?

I suspect that this original “Wuhan” variant spike protein was not as lethal as the Fauci/Gates had hoped, and are scrambling to keep this hoax going. It is a blunt tool (not a surgical strike to depopulate the earth as some suggest) like climate change, green energy, illegal alien invasion, local wars, degradation of our educational system, family unit disintegration through work disincentives/UBI for central father figures and communities, debauchment of the currency via the FED, media disinformation, political control, gun control, etc. –all these combined to destabilize society to the point that it will be too fractured to resist eventual centralized takeover.

In fact, I have wondered whether gun control is a reverse psychology psy-op whereby they are panicking people into buying MORE guns, so that when any civil war that breaks out, it will be even more deadly.

And being a “black sheeped” physician myself from years ago in KY and NC, I know all too well the kind of slime like Fauci is. Half the physicians are lying, insecure cowards, and how doctors on these rogue agency state medical boards are selected by the state governors and will threaten their own colleagues if they do not toe the medical narrative. They are so righteous. And they usually are those who are not in mainstream medical specialties. Presidents of medical schools, dermatology, pathology, public health, physical medicine and rehabilitation, PSYCHIATRY, etc.

State Medical Boards have sovereign immunity from malfeasance. And some lawyers, who are also scum, will take positions with these boards to cut their teeth on becoming Plaintiff Med-Mal trial lawyers when they leave ( In KY it was board attorney Thomas Wesley Faulkner JD Louisville Courier-Journal Article which I still have) , or in the case of hearing officers /administrative law judges, always agreeing with the Medical Boards in actions against physicians to insure that they will be “requested” to sit in on cases when a scapegoat is needed for public relations, and ALJ Martin Glazer JD. ‘Further mutations of the Covid-19 virus could spawn a strain as contagious as Delta and as deadly as the Ebola virus. I have looked up the new variant in gisaid:
“The variant” is The 21K red dot at the bottom right and two things are amazing:
The evolutionary path is being shown as a red line, you cannot zoom in but it shows that the”previous” variant is very very far away.
Possibly it is either “a new release” (Canada Leak?) or it has been circulating (probably in Africa) for quite a long time unnnoticed. In case of b a lot of people might already be immune to it (Africa).
In any case it is not so far away from the Wuhan strain that natural immunity to the Wuhan strain will defeat it (just my 2 ct).
    In any case:
    a) The vaccines (even the booster) is the Wuhan strain. That does no longer exist, so why vaccinate this? Does anyone fear GVDB here from mixes of vaccines? What is the exit strategy with Variants and vaccine code? Probably they are in effect trying to promote a “newer version of the vaccine” sigh.
    b) The delta Variant has breeded much more variants and why the heck should the 21K Variant make any difference? What the heck even does make any difference to the gazillion variants?
In the text description below you can read that the depiction is only a small excerpt of many many more variants.
    c) It still is not clear how mch of the variants is gerenated by a software assemby of fragments…
    d) Most troubling is, that the variant has been moved around by vaccinated people. The one and only zero covid exit strategy for that is ban all travel, vaccinated or not…

I see a new ramp up of framing a “medical emergency” when we all know that we are in any emergency possible but not in a medical one (*cough*)
Also political restistance has been growing quite a bit in the last month…

Just like the original ‘pandemic’ outbreak, the appearance of B(S)11529 is most convenient in many respects.

Resistance is growing; even those who were vaxxed won’t buy in so readily to the need for perpetual boosters; a growing rebellion against masks (certainly here in the UK) and lock-downs; more awareness of just how much Big Pharma, and the rich in general, are profiting from this; and so on.

Sorry guys, the global central banks have injected 8 trillion Dollars of unsecured debt against future energy usage.
Who in this world would ever worry about some billions earned here or there ? You think the stock market reflects any earnings at all?
“A product” is no longer required to reap huge short term personal gains for the managerial class. The economy runs around data and control (of resource flows).
The Vaccine is not about the vials sold, it is about something else, You name it…

        • Rodster says:

“Who in this world would ever worry about some billions earned here or there ?”

I fail to understand the logic here? Big Pharma only cares about Big Pharma and not what the CB’s of the world have invested into the economies. If I make a million or 100 million, I don’t care what Big Pharma has made or the CB’s for that matter.

Greed is personal, as long as you make it, you don’t care about what the others have done.

To be fair, I’m posting some good Ivermectin news.

True, it is science based, and has nothing to do with the delusions posted, but still—-

Those intubated and in a casket can have some consolation that they are not delusional like the 1.3 billion humans that are still alive in India.

Duncan… are you losing confidence in the protective ability of your injections… I’ve met a few injected CovIDIOTS who asked how I am getting Ivermectin … I’ve given them the website url…

I don’t even really want it … because it’s futile … except that I want to do whatever it takes to not go down too early …

I want to watch the extinction playing out…

I will get my two dogs and invite some of the sheep from the neighbouring properties to watch … and we’ll cheer…

There is no shame in being labelled Uncle Fast Eddy

Yes, Out Of Africa, where all things are quiet on the C0V!D front. Can’t have that. Let’s flip that reality inside out, and make Africa the source of the deadliest strain yet.

This is Season 3 – stay tuned for more episodes of the Omicron Variant

  44. Yoshua says:

The Omicron has its own branch, that is over one year long, as if its been inside one host during that time, before it entered the public. Perhaps inside a LongCovid patient, or a vaccinated person, where it has mutated into an immune escape variant. It seems clear that it has been a human host, since the virus has picked up human genome from the nucleus and added it to its sequence.
